The NJ 3-hour daily cap, in plain words

One student, one day, 3 hours behind the wheel at most. What counts, where schools trip, and what Dualbrake does about it.

New Jersey allows a driving school student at most 3 hours behind the wheel in one day. The rule is short. Keeping it on a busy week is the hard part.

What counts as a day

Dualbrake counts by the school's local date in New Jersey, midnight to midnight, Eastern time. A lesson that starts at 11 PM still belongs to that date.

Where schools trip

  • Two lessons booked back to back by different people at the desk.
  • A lesson that runs long, so the next one pushes the day past 3 hours.
  • A make-up lesson added on a day that already has two.

What Dualbrake does

Every booking checks the student's hours for that date before it saves. A 4th hour cannot be booked, and the screen says why:

Ana P.: a 4th hour today is blocked (NJ 3-hour daily cap).

Start and end come from the instructor's phone, so the minutes are the minutes taught. A lesson that runs over is flagged for the office to review.

Dualbrake helps your school follow the NJ rules. Your school stays the licensed party.
