In New Jersey, a permit holder under 21 needs 50 hours of supervised practice before the road test, and 10 of them at night. The hours go on the BA-CSD form.
Who logs the hours
The family does. After each practice drive, a parent or guardian adds it in the family app from the phone: the date, the start time and how long it took.
Night hours
When a drive starts after sunset or before sunrise, the app ticks “At night” and shows that day's sunset. The family can change the mark.
What the office sees
- Each student's total in numbers: “38 of 50 hours” and “7 of 10 night hours”.
- Every drive the family logged, with its date and length.
- The BA-CSD log, printed when the student reaches 50 and 10.
Three tips for families
- Log the drive the same day, while the times are fresh.
- Mix drives: highway, rain, parking, and some after dark.
- Check the night count early. Night hours are the ones that run short.
